Laura received a BSc and a MSc in Energy Engineering at the University of Bologna (Italy) in 2015 and 2018, respectively. In 2019 she obtained a scholarship to work at the Department of Electrical, Electronic and Information Engineering “Guglielmo Marconi” (DEI) of the University of Bologna, where she carried out projects in collaboration with CERN and ITER.
She joined Prof. Sanvito’s group as a PhD student in September 2019.
The aim of her project is to develop new methods, rooted in machine learning, for enhancing and expanding today’s measurement capabilities in the field of microscopy images. In particular, she uses machine learning to perform advanced image processing of data obtained with scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM). One of the goals of the project is to process and display information in real-time.
Laura works in collaboration with Dr. Lewys Jones from the Ultramicroscopy Group.
